Dean de los Angeles’ practice deals with corporate matters, contracts, litigation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. He was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 1967.

Practice

Dean de los Angeles represents Philippine and foreign clients in various cases before quasi-judicial agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Board of Investment and the National Telecommunications Commission, and the courts such as: the Regional Trial Courts, the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court. He was also a private prosecutor during the impeachment trial of former Philippine President Joseph Estrada.

He regularly advises many Philippine and foreign clients on corporate matters, contracts, securities regulations, and telecommunications. He has extensive experience in the capital market, having been elected the first president of the Philippine Stock Exchange in 1992 when he introduced various market reforms that enabled the Philippine Stock Exchange to be admitted to the Federacion International de Bolsa Valeurs. He was also elected Chairman of the Philippine Central Depository in 1994 and director of the Philippine Securities Clearing Corporation in 1995. In 2003, he was elected Director of the Philippine Dealing and Exchange Corporation and the Philippine Depository and Trust Corporation.

In addition, Dean de los Angeles advises Philippine and foreign clients on transactional matters including Joint Ventures and loan syndications.

Professional Activities

Shortly after obtaining his Masteral Degree in Columbia University in 1970, Dean de los Angeles became Professorial Lecturer in one of the leading law schools in the Philippines: Ateneo de Manila Law School. He taught Obligations and Contracts, Credit Transactions, Sales, Persons and Family Relations, Consumer Protection, Land Titles and Deeds, Civil Procedure, Evidence, Philosophy of Law, Situational Ethics, Legal Ethics and Clinical Legal Education. From 1984-90, he was appointed Dean of the Ateneo de Manila Law School. For twenty-five (25) years, he has been a Bar Reviewer. In 1987, while he was President of the Philippine 

Association of Law Schools, he assisted in designing the Model Law Curriculum which the majority of law schools presently use in the Philippines. In 1989, he introduced the Juris Doctor Program at the Ateneo de Manila Law School.

He is also a Professorial Lecturer of the Department of Civil Law and Mediation in the Philippine Judicial Academy and the San Beda College Graduates School of Law. In 1995, he was elected Regent of Manuel Luis Quezon University and in 2004, he was elected President of that University.

He has published numerous articles on legal education, alternative dispute resolution and the securities law, some of which have been printed in International Law Journals. In 1992, he was elected President of the Philippine Bar Association. From 1986-87, he was Consultant in the revision of the Rules of Court Committee of the Supreme Court, and in 1999 up to 2008, the Chairman of the ADR Committee of the Philippine Judicial Academy which has promoted court-annexed mediation and judicial dispute resolution in various courts in the Philippines. From 2001-05, he was also Vice-Chairman (for Asia) of the Dispute Resolution Practice Group of Lex Mundi. 

He also held various directorships in leading Philippine corporations such as: San Miguel Corporation, Eastern Telecommunications Philippines, Inc., GSIS Family Savings Bank, Pascual Laboratories, the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Metropolitan Theater.

He has received various awards: the Justice Roman Ozaeta Award from the Philippine Bar Association; the Thomas Fitzpatrick Professorial Chair in Management from Ateneo de Manila; Ulirang Ama from National Father’s Day and Mother’s Day Foundation; and Outstanding President Award from Rotary International District 3810.
